Step-by-step instructions

  1. 1

Stand with your feet wider than shoulder-width apart and your toes turned out at about 45 degrees.

  2. 2

Stand tall, keep your chest up, and look forward.

  3. 3

Push your hips back and lower your body straight down, concentrating on squeezing your inner thighs and glutes as you descend.

  4. 4

Lower until your thighs are as close to parallel to the floor as your range of motion allows.

  5. 5

Press through your heels to return to the starting position, squeezing your glutes at the top.

  6. 6

    Repeat.

Notes

Keep your knees tracking in line with your toes throughout the movement — do not let them cave inward. Your fitness level and range of motion are key factors. Do the best you can and work to improve each time.
